A U.S. boy has set up a video website that specializes in all good news in the world because he think today's news is too depressing, according to media reports Monday.

Max Jones, a 12-year-old schoolboy from Orlando, Florida, has already set up Weekend News Today at www.hnheadlines.com, for which he is the senior anchor. He also set a goal of presiding over a network of 15 sites in the future.

"This is a young kid who is out there to change the world, and he cares so much about the world, and he's so young," said Lillian Wu, who is 18 and writing for Weekend News Today. "It's just inspiring. So many older people just don't even care or are really indifferent, and he's out there making his voice be heard, and yet he's only 12."

Here is a link to his website: Weekend News Today

Go Max! I hope he gets the full benefit of the quote he used on his site:

Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves.

James M. Barrie

PS. Saved this site to favorites, looking forward to checking on it weekly.......

I wonder if as lead for our little group here, if you should contact him and invite him to link in with us? A great find for GNW!

Did the link above from rottlady not work? Or you can just type www.hnheadlines.com in your browser. If those don't work I'm not sure what's going on and you might want to contact your ISP.

Hi Max, it's really nice to see you here! Let me be the first to congratulate you on your great endeavor. Kudos for your idea and the ingenuity to accomplish it. I will be using your site to draw from in the future for our Good News Wednesday group.

Oh, and in the future you shouldn't add your website in your comments or someone will think you are self promoting. They have rules about that here. I can promote you, but you just can't promote yourself. Sorry.

Wonderful seed, rottlady!

Max Jones, I commend you for your idea of a "good news" webite and for taking the initiative to actually develop the idea -- I love the thought of good news becoming more widely reported! You may even be able to outdo the relatively few established "good news" websites.

To use an old cliche, credited to Buddha, try to "be good and do good"! Enjoy God's blessings, James.

Max, of course you can write here. Just remeber you can't insert links that send someone to your own website.

Right now you are in what they call the Greenhouse. All new users start out there. You will restricted for a time on being able to post pictures also, but my guess it won't be long. You need to accumulate some more friends and post some articles or seeds.

Here are a few links that might help you: The Newsvine Code of Honor which tells you the rules of the site. The Newsvine Help page, in particular you might read Your Column: Writing and Seeding. And of course if you ever need help just ask and most everyone is willing to help out.

Good luck Max, I'll be looking forward to see what you write. Oh and if you want join our Good News Wednesday group, or the Good News Week group.

Yes just thinking positive will get you ahead of the pack in most cases. I do think he has a bright and shining future. =)

I had a hard time sleeping last night so I think I read almost every story on the vine. I was surprised at how much negativity prevails in our seeds, do I dare mention the obstinacy, hate and belligerency ? I realized late last night there are a lot of hateful, negative , ugly, evil people in this world.

Soooo here's to keeping it positive when we can ! =)

I think Max has done what should have been done a long, long time ago! Hats off to him!

My parents subscribe to 3 different newspapers in India, and both of them were addicted to the newspaper, and satyed burried behind it every morning for at least an hour if not more. Finally, one day, maybe about 4-5 years ago, my Mom just stopped reading the papers. She said it was too depressing! She wondered why she had chosen to start every single day of hers with things like rape, murder, child abuse, abduction... it just never ends! I'm sure she'd be very pleased with Max's efforts!

I've never figured out why bad news sells... however, I see this as a beginning of a happy revolution of sorts :) I am sure once people statrt to read about all the good things that are happening out there, they will want to spread the cheer! I might be too optimistic, but no harm in hoping for the best!

I personally give a standing applause to the 12 year old!

We do too Shweta, that's one of the reasons we started the Good News Wednesday group. We also have a Good News Week group that gets stuff posted to it everday. Maybe you should give them both links for more good news.

I hope you have a great day!

I took a little time to check out Max's website. I was really impressed. He has writers under his control all over the world. That was one thing that I took note of. If you restrict yourself to one country primarily, you are not going to get as many visitors as you would by catering to a lot of countries.

I also noted the absence of commercial ads. He could make a ton of money sponsoring ads, but he doesn't do it. His ads are mostly public service type ads. I'm not being critical.
